Utanon Festival Queen 2010 Winners

12 young ladies from different participating high school and elementary contingents are competing for the crown of Utanon Festival Queen 2010. The event was held at Dalaguete Sports and Cultural Center during the vesparas night of Utanon Festival 2010.

Utanon Festival Queen 2010

Pageantry is one of the most awaited events of every fiesta celebrations, a competition that incorporates the physical beauty, personality, talents of contestants and answers to judges questions. Just like recently sinulog festival they have Search for Miss Cebu and Sinulog Festival Queen. But Utanon Festival Queen is different, their Queen will stand both high position - as a Queen of a Tribe and as a ambassadress of Dalaguete Cebu. Today (February 09, 2010) “vesperas” night of the town fiesta, 12 young and single ladies will be competing for the said crown and also ballroom dancing competition.

Utanon Festival 2010 Winners

Utanon Festival 2010 was a SUCCESS!!! Thousand of people and spectators came to witness the grandest fiesta of Dalaguete Cebu. Present on the event are: Gov. Gwen Garcia with his vice gov. running mate Glen Soco, Dalaguete Mayor Andrade Alcantara and other local officials.

The Street dancing parade and ritual showdown was held at Dalaguete National High School grounds and marked a lot of colors showcasing the various vegetable products and energetic dancers from different elementary and high school divisions.

Here are the winners of Utanon Festival 2010.

Museo sa Dalaguete Cebu

Tomorrow (February 7, 2010) is the opening and inauguration of "Museo sa Dalaguete". It will start at 5pm headed by the local officials of Dalaguete Cebu and Gov. Gwen Garcia. The "Museo sa Dalaguete" is part of the 299th Fiesta of the town that will run on Feb 9-10. This is to showcase the history of exhibition that would alternative approaches to the understanding of the Pre-colonial, Spanish, American, Japanese and contemporary periods of Dalaguete Cebu.

One of the heritage that is still preserved in the town are: Prehistoric houses - the Almagros and Osorios; the old church, St. William Parish Church - was built in 1770 with stones and wood during the spanish era; the life-size icons of the different saints; the wooden cross that was embedded in a concrete post by Spanish people; the Church walls that used to protect the perimeter area of the church during Moro attacks in the late 18th century and early 19th century; and many many more...

Dalaguete Cebu known for "The Vegetable Basket and Summer Capital of Cebu" will celebrates their 3rd annual Utanon Festival 2010 with the theme of "A celebration of Good Harvest through Dance and Music!". This will be on February 9-10 2010. The annual celebration is honor to Saint San Guillermo de Aquitania - the town patron saint.

Utanon Festival - is a festival of Music and Dance featuring the high value crops and vegetables as a major form of trade in Dalaguete Cebu.

Different Tibes from Elementary and High Shool Division will be competing for the Search for Utanon Festival Queen 2010, Street Dancing and Ritual Showdown. Tribu Panaksoy of Cawayan Central Elem. and National High School, Tribu Sari-sari of Dalaguete Elem. and National High School, Tribu Kampakas of Mantalongon Elem. and National High School, and Tribu Pinakbit of St. Mary’s Academy.

Utanon Festival

Dalaguete is a 2nd class municipality in the province of Cebu, Philippines. According to the 2007 census, it has a population of 61,405 people.

Dalaguete is a 16th century old town. Oral tradition has it that before Dalagauete became a town, there were two chieftains. Cogo of Barrio Tapon and Maniktok of Barrio Obong, respectively. Dalaguete was organized as separate town when they had succesfully built a common church between their villages in a place called "Unab"

The name Dalagauete came from a tree which grew abundantly in the area the balete tree which is called as the dalakit in Cebuano.

Utanon Festival


Utanon festival is a celebration of good harvest through dance and music--- through music because the town of Dalaguete is not only known as the vegetable basket of the province but the music capital of the island as well.
