The Success of Hinulawan Festival 2009

Despite the threat of the swine flu outbreak no one can stop the proud of festival event in Toledo City Cebu. The Hinulawan Festival 2009 was done tremendously and successfully. One of the highlights was the finale dance of Gov. Gwen Garcia and the Mayor of Toledo City, Mayor. Arlene Zambo with other local officials members. The Festival has 6 contingents from different Toledo Schools. They are from Tribu Panginabuhi of the University of Visayas Toledo Campus, Tribu Minero of the Don Andres Soriano National High School, Tribu Minahan of De La Salle Andres Soriano Memorial College, Tribu Magmimina of the Luray II National High School, Tribu Maampuon of the Consolatrix College and Tribu Bulawanong Pundok of the Toledo National Vocational School.

Tribu Bulawanong Pundok, of Toledo National Vocational School was declared best in streetdancing and ritual showdown, while Tribu Maampuon and Tribu Minahan settled for the second and third places, respectively. The lead dancers of Consolatrix College contingent were also adjudged the Hinulawan Festival King and Queen.

Mayor Arlene Zambo was grateful to the governor for allowing the Hinulawan Festival to be held in time with the Suroy Suroy Sugbo, which was basically the reason why balikbayans of the city and tourists alike came to know of the festival which is still in its second outing. She will stand as ambassadress of goodwill and represent the people and City of Toledo in various functions and gatherings.

Hinulawan Festival 2009

Toledo City Cebu celebrates the 2nd Hinulawan Festival 2009. Toledo City came from the Old Hinulawan and New Hinulawan. The Old Hinulawan was presently called DaangLungsod while the New Hinulawan is presently called Toledo and was founded by Fernand Poloyapoy and other various personality of Toledo City.

The Hinulawan Festival celebrates for there annual thanksgiving in honor of its patron saint, St. John of Sahagun every 12th day of June, one of the highlights of the 12 day celebration.

Hinulawan is a contraction of two Cebuano words , HIN-from Hinaguan and ULAWAN from BULAWAN.

The Basic steps of Hinulawan Festival and Four Golden features of the City are:

1. Bulawanong Panaghinigalaay for Golden Friendship
2. Bulawanong Pagtuo for Golden faith
3. Bulawanong Bahandi for Golden treasure
4. Bulawanong ani for golden harvest
