Mantawi Comparza Festival 2009
May 2, 2009
Mandaue City, Cebu — The local government of Mandue City has officially launched this year’s Mantawi Festival to celebrate the Madauehanon and emphasize the city’s culture, heritage and tourist attractions amid the current global financial crisis.
Mayor Jonas Cortes said the current financial squeeze will not hinder the city from celebrating its annual festivity, adding that the event prioritizes its religious aspect anyway.
“Our annual fiesta is our way of expressing our gratitude to our patron Saint Joseph for the countless and wonderful blessings that are continually showered to our city and to the rest of the Mandauehanons,” he said.
Cortes said the Mantawi Festival is also a celebration of the heritage, culture and tradition of every Mandauehanon.
He said his administration was very lucky because despite the crisis, almost all sectors and organizations have stood up to volunteer, help and donate for the success of this year’s fiesta, including Mandauehanons based abroad.
Major highlights of the celebration include the Miss Mandaue Pageant Night and the 1st International Convention of Taga-Mandaue among other lined up activities that will surely entertain tourist and visitors during the month-long fiesta.
